What's the project?
Our vision of Mikkelstjenn Økogrend is to create a new form of lifestyle where private ownership of land and home is combined with the advantages of being a part of a collaborative community to enable economic efficiency and share common values regarding sustainable living.
For those who dream of small-scale farm life, a life immediately close to nature, or an increase in the quality of their everyday that country life brings, Mikkelstjenn provides the ideal environment to make those aspirations a reality.
This modern eco-hamlet consists of 20 - 30 freehold residential plots in the sizes from 950 to 1550 m 2 , and 1,5 ha of certified organic agricultural land that is ready for cultivation and also suited to small scale animal husbandry.
Each plot owner will be a member of the Mikkelstjenn Community Welfare Association and will share the costs of common services and interests, including the management of the agricultural land.
The prices for the plots range from
NOK 950.000, - to 1.500.000.
This price includes basic infrastructure;
roads, electricity, water, sewer and
fibernet.

Inspiration & Ideas
Mikkelstjenn is about choosing quality over quantity—a place where you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy the freedom of open space and nature every single day, not just on weekends.
Here, you can shape a life that truly fits you. Work from a home office, commute a few days a week, or create something with your hands in your own workshop—the balance is yours to define.
You’re close enough to towns and cities when you need them, yet far enough away to feel the calm of the countryside. If you’re thinking about starting something of your own, you won’t be alone. In Sigdal, you’ll find real support through Buskerud Næringshage, with experienced mentors and a network that can help turn ideas into reality.
Taking the step toward a more rural life can feel uncertain—but it also opens new possibilities. There are local job opportunities, support for entrepreneurs, and the option to
combine home office life with commuting. From Hokksund, trains connect you easily to Drammen and Oslo.
And when it comes to your home, you can create something truly your own. Work with local builders to design a house that reflects your vision, or choose a simpler small-home
solution—freeing up time, energy, and resources for what matters most.
At Mikkelstjenn, it’s not about having more—it’s about living better.
House Building & Design
Keeping climate-neutrality and sustainability in mind, plot owners are free to design their own homes; Mikkelstjenn ecohamlet is perfect for a family, or perhaps you are dreaming of a mini-house in the forest?
The plots are large enough to have more than one house, maybe get a plot together with friends and create separate homes?
If you would like professional support, we recommend our consultants who have comprehensive knowledge and extensive experience in designing Co2 neutral housing solutions:

Mikkelstjenn Økogrend is idyllically situated in the forested landscape of Sigdal County, with beautiful views of Lake Soneren and the majestic mountain Andersnatten – just under two hours northwest of Oslo.
The surrounding area, Norefjell and Trillemarka Nature Reserve offer rich opportunities for hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and other outdoor activities. Around Lake Soneren there are many lovely beaches, with Sandsbråten being the largest. In winter, the valley has beautifully groomed cross-country ski trails, and Norefjell, Tempelseter and Haglebu all offer downhill slopes for every skill level.
Sigdal is known as the Artist's Valley – a valley that has inspired generations of Norwegian artists. Both Theodor Kittelsen and Christian Skredsvig lived and created here. Lauvlia and Skredsvigs Hagen host regular exhibitions and activities, and Kunstnerdalen Cultural Museum and Sigdal Museum offer a vivid glimpse into the valley's rich cultural heritage. Blaafarveværket in Åmot is also well worth a visit, with art exhibitions, shops, a café, a children's farm and the historic cobalt mines.
One of the most popular excursions in the area is the hike up to the Madonna Sculpture in Trillemarka, where the views that greet you are nothing short of magical. For those seeking a bit more excitement, Sigdal Aktiv offers rafting, paddleboarding, kayaking and ski and snowboard tours – tailored to suit whether you are a family with children, a group of friends or work colleagues. At Evje Gård you can join weekly yoga or aikido classes, and at Norefjell Ski & Spa a pool, spa and fitness centre await after an active day.
The area has a good selection of cafés and restaurants. Trollbua in Eggedal serves locally produced meat, beer, jam, juice and ice cream. Fru Thea's Café at Villa Fridheim, Eggedal Borgerstue and Prestfoss Café are all welcoming places to stop and eat. If you prefer to cook for yourself, it is easy to source moose and venison directly from local hunting groups, and several farms in the area sell their own produce directly such as beef, lamb, chicken and eggs.
The nearest village is Prestfoss, about 15 minutes away, covering most everyday needs: grocery stores, a bank, hairdressers, a GP surgery and a fitness centre. There is also a kindergarten, primary and secondary school, and a public swimming pool. A little further north up the valley lies Eggedal, also with a kindergarten, primary school and swimming pool.
About 40 minutes away is Åmot, a larger town with an upper secondary school and a wide range of services – banks, a doctor, an optician, a vet, a pet shop, clothing stores, a bookshop and more. Åmot is also a public transport hub with bus routes toward Vikersund–Hønefoss and Hokksund–Drammen–Oslo, and from Vikersund there are direct train services to Oslo.
The nearest town with a railway station is Hokksund, about 50 minutes away, with good commuter connections to Drammen, Oslo and Tønsberg. Kongsberg and Hønefoss are the nearest towns with hospitals and larger shopping facilities, both roughly an hour's drive from Mikkelstjenn.
